Ellmara Papillons

Welcome to our home of Ellmara, we live in the lovely countryside of Essex, UK, with our beautiful Papillons (Butterfly Dog). Throughout our website you will find lots of information on the breed and how to care for them.  Ellmara all began in 1980 when Mark and I chose to buy our first pedigree dog, Up until then we were competing with our horses and had a couple of crossbred dogs as our companions.

So our life begun in the show dog world,  we applied to the Kennel Club for an ‘affix’  which is unique to us, ‘ Ellmara’ , this is an anagram of Mark’s and my name Michelle,  which the  Kennel Club kindly granted  to us in 1982.

Over the years we have also owned the lovely Giant Schnauzer and Border Terrier, showing them, playing at agility and anything to have fun with them.

Our Daughter Melody luckily likes the showing, when she was five she started Junior Handling with the Borders. Watching her in the ring just melted my heart.  I think it would be fair to say Melody was the first to notice the Papillon. She thought they looked so pretty.  Melody by this time was a lot older and felt the Borders were a bit ‘boyish’.

I was uncertain if  we were suitable for The Papillon,  so began to research the breed and ask lots of questions.  before I even thought about sharing our home with one.  Our passion for the Papillon started,  Tipsy ‘ Babrees Margarita ‘ was our first papillon, a big thank you goes to Jill Terry Tipsy’s breeder who trusted us with one of her special babies.

I have become very involved with Papillons since starting out with Tipsy. I was invited on to The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club committee and served  for two years. I then was introduced to the idea of judging our breed,  not to sure this was the direction for me to follow,  I agreed to judge one appointment and decide if this is really what I want to do. Needless to say I loved every moment, and have continued, I’m currently on the breed specialist ‘B’ list.  Having passed my A3 assessment early,  I am working towards  judging at championship show level  in the future.

We put alot of thought and time into our future Papillon Puppies, using the Kennel Club breed standard as our blue print for the breed and ensuring only healthy sound Papillon’s are bred from, keeping the breed’s superb temperaments and sound construction.
